A two-year-old boy is undergoing surgery at the Kenyatta National Hospital after a fork jembe got lodged in his head.

Reports indicate the boy was out playing with his friends and siblings on Tuesday when one of the children hit the little boy with the jembe.

The mother was away when the incident occurred.

The KNH communications department in a statement allayed fears that the boy was in danger, noting that the patient had since been stabilized and undergoing the delicate surgery at the facility.

“The patient had lost a lot of blood and as a result, the clotting process was not occurring as expected thereby delaying the surgical procedure as this would have been dangerous to the patient,” the statement reads.

“We thank you for your concern and we assure you that the child is under the best care by our teams,” it adds.

KNH has conducted numerous major and minor surgeries and draws together faculty and staff from several departments (a multi-disciplinary team) to enhance patient care.

In March, the hospital successfully conducted a four-hour highly delicate and complicated Tetralogy repair surgery on a 2-year-old baby.

Carson Micky was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot at birth in 2018.

The Tetralogy of Fallot at birth occurs when a baby’s heart doesn’t form correctly as it grows and develops in the mother’s womb during pregnancy.
