Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has committed to end the insecurity menace that has plagued Kerio Valley for years.

Speaking on Saturday, the DP said he will personally convene a meeting with leaders from the region to chart the way forward.

"This small work of security is my mandate, it's not President's mandate. I will personally call the meeting of Kerio Valley leaders and all security officers and I will be the chairman," Gachagua said.

He was speaking during the funeral service of former Baringo Deputy Governor Charles Kipngok at Solian Girls High School, Eldama Ravine, Baringo.

The DP said the meeting will come soon after a new Permanent Secretary in the ministry of Interior is appointed and a reshuffle of security chiefs in the area is done.

"We will talk until we reach a consensus. Where we are required to deploy police reservists, we shall deploy them," he said.

Kerio Valley has been the epicenter of perennial banditry and cattle rustling in North Rift leading to tens of deaths in recent months alone.

Several families have also been displaced and forced into solitude in neighbouring counties as animosities between communities in the region remain unresolved.

Fights over pasture and water have on many occasions been the trigger of the unending inter-communal fights.

"Mambo ya maji, ndio sababu inaleta vita. Mambo ya ukulima na mambo ya shule, tutafute suluhisho la kudumu," Gachagua said.

"The water issue which has been the cause of conflict, farming and schools, we must look for a permanent solution," the DP said.
