KCAA breaks silence on aircraft accident at Nairobi Park

Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has released a statement on the accident that occurred in Nairobi National Park involving an aircraft on Wednesday.

The aircraft had students and their trainee when the accident occurred few minutes after they left Wilson airport, Nairobi.

"Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) wishes to confirm that an aircraft registration number 5Y-BWE, owned and operated by Flight Star Academy, crashed at Nairobi National Park today."

"The aircraft had four students on board. The four students have been safely evacuated by KWS helicopter and are now safe within Wilson Airport. The evacuation was coordinated by Wilson Control Tower. We shall keep you updated once we get more information about the accident," read the staement.

Police and witnesses said the plane had taken off from the airport for training sessions when it went down about four minutes later.

The two were later picked up from the scene by a chopper after making calls for evacuation.

Bodaboda riders who witnessed the incident also breached the fence of the park and arrived at the scene.

Witnesses said the two were not injured as they arrived at Wilson Airport and walked out of the chopper.

They were, however, advised to go and seek medical attention.

Langata police boss Monicah Kimani said experts are investigating the incident.

Accidents involving pilots and trainees are not uncommon.

Most training planes operate from Wilson Airport in Nairobi.
