Former UDA party vice-chairperson Kipruto Kirwa has said he has no regrets for leaving the Kenya Kwanza Alliance for Azimio la Umoja .

The former Cabinet minister said he made the decision after he realised that he didn’t belong to the same school of thought as that of the President William Ruto-led alliance.

"In politics, when you feel uncomfortable about the environment you are operating in, you are forced to bolt out of it. I don't regret the decision that I took to move from Kenya Kwanza to Azimio,’ Kirwa said in an interview on Wednesday at a local Tv station.

Kirwa dumped Kenya Kwanza in May during an Azimio rally at Sirisia market in Bungoma county where he announced his resignation as the UDA vice chairman.

"From today, I Kipruto arap Kirwa has resigned as UDA vice chairman and I have resigned because I have seen how democracy is going to be suppressed if we allow the other side," he said.

The former Agriculture minister clarified that there was no disagreement between him and Ruto or any other Kenya Kwanza member that forced him to switch allegiance.

"I didn’t leave because of any disagreement but I realised I was in a team of individuals whose school I don’t belong. I felt it was better I exclude myself," he said.

"If the environment is toxic, you just quit. You don't have to be part of a team if your are not a team player," he added.

The former Cherangany MP said the decision to leave UDA in May was a two-week journey that started soon after Ruto and ODM party leader Raila Odinga chose their running mates.

He said that after 13 days of thinking, he decided to call former Azimio presidential running mate Martha Karua and asked her to be the one to announce his move to the Azimio la Umoja camp.
