A family in Kisii County has called on the government to help them bring the body of their daughter in the country for burial after she died in Saudi Arabia.

Naomi Barongo died two months ago under unclear circumstances after going to Saudi Arabia in 2021 in search of a job.

Her relatives have been gathering at her home in Kisii since her demise.

Barongo's husband Jairus Nyaboke said that she had complained about being overworked and being denied food.

"She told me that she did a lot of work but with little food. She could work from morning until midnight. She also complained that her legs and hands had swollen," Nyaboke said.

Relatives now want the body of their kin brought back for a decent burial.

The family claimed that they have sent documents to the ministry of foreign affairs but they have not yet received feedback from the Saudi Arabian embassy.

Several families have called on the government to help rescue their children from Saudi Arabia.

This is after cases of physical abuse and even deaths have been reported from the gulf nation.

Kenyan authorities have warned citizens to rigorously check recruiting agents.

The Labour ministry has been instructed to vet recruiting agents carefully.
