The Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation (MYWO) has expressed readiness to work with the new government under President-Elect William Ruto.

MYWO Chairperson Rahab Muiu said that the organization has always worked with the government of the day and they hope to work with the incoming one as well.

“When the handshake came between his Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, we immediately embraced it and continued to advocate for it to date”

“It is based on that that MYWO, therefore, supported the Azimio team and Baba openly,” Muiu said.

Muiu said despite this, they are ready to work with President-Elect Ruto as they did before they fell out with President Uhuru.

She was speaking at a press conference in Nairobi where the members present congratulated Ruto for his Supreme Court win.

“On behalf of MYWO Board, the patron, the four million members and my own behalf, I congratulate William Ruto,” she said.

As the president is a symbol of unity, Muiu asked that he find it in his heart to work with all Kenyans of goodwill, those who supported him and those who did not.

“Maendeleo commits to supporting you and your government and to working very closely with you in empowering women at the grassroots,” she said to the President-Elect.

She thanked all Kenyans for upholding peace during the announcement of the presidential results and the Supreme Court's verdict on the petitions.

“It is time to embrace one another in Nation building. The same way we have carried ourselves, may we continue with the same spirit and be our brother’s keeper,” she said.
