IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has said the Supreme Court ruling upholding President-elect William Ruto's win is testimony they conducted the election in accordance with the law.

Chebukati on Monday said the verdict vindicated the commission from allegations levelled against it by some leaders, who opposed Ruto’s election.

"The Supreme Court judgment today is a testimony that the commission conducted a free, fair, transparent and credible general election that met the democratic aspirations of the people of Kenya,” Chebukati said.

"The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission is now finally vindicated.”

Chebukati said despite the intimidation and assault on the commission’s staff “including myself”, the court's decision is now strong evidence that they performed their duties as required.

The chairman also condemned the attacks and ethnic profiling that were meted out on the IEBC staff, some of whom lost their lives.

He said it was surprising to note that to-date, no one has been arrested for crimes committed against the commission and its staff.

“As it stands, no human rights or civil society organisation has condemned these heinous acts," Chebukati said.

He said going forward, the commission will engage stakeholders in their feedback on the post-election evaluation exercise, which will inform areas of improvement.

In eight petitions filed at the court, the IEBC was accused of interfering with the results' transmission system by uploading and transmitting forms 34A from polling stations to the IEBC public portal.

It was accused of deploying a technology that did meet standards of integrity, verifiability, security and transparency to guarantee accurate and verifiable results.
