Kenyan Diana Chepkemoi who was stranded in Saudi Arabia is in safe hands, ambassador Macharia Kamau has said.

"This matter was taken up by our ambassador in Saudi Arabia and the lady is now in safe hands," he tweeted on Sunday.

Macharia is the PS Ministry of foreign affairs.

Chepkemoi's family on Saturday appealed for assistance from the government to bring her back home.

Chepkemoi, a former Meru University student looked emaciated in photos shared on social media.

Her once glowing eyes, full cheeks and confident pose radiating warmth had been replaced by an emaciated version.

The pictures depicted a person who has gaunt eyes, hollow cheeks, unkempt hair and visible shoulder blades signalling a spree of sufferings in Saudi Arabia.

Kenyans came together and called for her to be brought back home as ‘Saudi Arabia’ trended for the better part of the day on Sunday.

Her mother, Clara Cherotich, said her daughter went to Saudi Arabia in May after failing to raise school fees.

She last saw her in March 2021, when her daughter informed her of her plans to travel.
