Sonko visits Conjestina, dispells rumours she is dead

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has dispelled rumours that legendary Kenyan female boxer Conjestina Achieng' is dead.

Sonko was speaking in Mombasa Women Empowerment Network Hospital in Miritini Saturday afternoon where Conjestina is undergoing rehabilitation.

He had gone to check on her as well as donate boxing equipment.

Rumours started going around on social media on Thursday that Conjestina is dead.

Conjestina had been admitted to the institution in early July after her health and mental status deteriorated.

After a successful career that made her the darling of many Kenyans, ‘Conje’ has been bogged down by mental illness and financial problems since 2011.

She attacked her younger brother in Siaya in 2016 after escaping from rehab in Kisumu, grievously injuring him with a sharp object.

Media personality Daniel Ndambuki bailed her out of rent problems in 2013 after news of her failing health and squalid living conditions in Buru Buru were publicised in 2012.

Sonko came to the rescue and took Conjestina to several rehabilitation centres including Nairobi County rehabilitation centres, Parklands,  and Diani Beach among others.
