• Raila and Karua had filed a petition before the Supreme Court challenging the results of the August 9 general elections.
• The lawyers argued that the UDA candidate William Ruto was not the will of Kenyans, but that of the Venezuelans, whose fingerprints were detected in the IEBC servers
Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga took a photo with his advocates after the hearing of the presidential election petitions.
The photos were posted on Thursday by the Azimio campaign spokesperson Makau Mutua on his Twitter handle.
Raila was accompanied by his running mate Martha Karua.
The lawyers who took on Raila's case include senior counsel James Orengo, Philip Murgor, Julie Soweto and Pheroze Norwojee.
Others in the legal team were Okong’o Omogeni (Nyamira Senate seat), Kisumu senator-elect Tom Ojienda and Makueni Senator-elect Dan Maanzo.
Raila and Karua had filed a petition before the Supreme Court challenging the election results of the August 9 general elections.
The lawyers argued that the UDA candidate William Ruto did not win the August polls.
They said a Venezuelan, whose fingerprints were detected in the IEBC servers, altered the results.
They also told the court that there was suppression in his strong-holds and that the servers had multiple deletions.
The elections were cancelled only in the strongholds of the 1st petitioner, therefore the first petitioner didn't start equally with the 1st respondent," Julie Soweto, one of Raila's lawyers, said.
"Therefore the cancellation of the vote in those areas suppressed the voter turnout."
Both Raila and Karua took to Twitter to thank them.
"Fantastic work. We thank our entire legal team," Raila said.
"The women and men who worked tirelessly and selflessly in the representation of the people to defend the truth and uphold justice. Asanteni Counsels," Karua said.
The court's verdict on September 5 will see if the election will be nullified or if they will uphold Ruto's win.
Nullification of the election would send Kenyans back to the polls, which must be conducted within 60 days, with the specific day being November 4, 2022.
If the Judges uphold the election of Ruto, he will be sworn into office on September 13, 2022.
