Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi now says his faith in the democracy of the country is in the questions posed by the Supreme Court judges on the second day of the hearing of the presidential petition filed at the Supreme Court of Kenya.

Ngunyi took to Twitter on Thursday to weigh in on the proceeding at the Supreme Court when he made the remarks.

"Whatever the ruling, the second day of the Supreme Court proceedings gives me faith in our democracy. It is not the flamboyant lawyers, including 'Toto' on Ruto's defence that gives me confidence," he said.

"My Faith as a Political Scientist is Affirmed by the questions asked by the judges."

Ngunyi, who backed Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga for the top seat, exuded confidence the Supreme Court judges will serve Kenyans justice.

On Thursday, the bench fired hard questions to the legal team representing the IEBC and President-elect William Ruto.

Raila's legal team made their submission on Wednesday.

Justice Njoki Ndung'u questioned the powers of the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati.

While presenting her questions, she said Chebukati had been made to appear bullish in the running of the commission with regard to submissions made at the Supreme Court of Kenya.

"From the narrative, we are hearing in court, there seems to be an all-powerful chair. What is the check for this chair if the commissioners have nothing to do with his role? What would happen if he was to announce the wrong results, or was mentally incapacitated, sick or dead?" Ndung'u asked.

Justice Smokin Wanjala also wondered why Chebukati did not announce the results from the 27 constituencies after calm was restored.

"Why didn't the chair when calm was restored, why would he not have included the 27 constituencies if they had already been verified and tallied just before he announced the Presidential results? Where was the hurry this time?"
