Kenyans in UK urge apex court judges to embrace justice

In a statement, they urged them not to bend to any blackmail and intimidation.

Kenyans in the United Kingdom (UK) have urged the Supreme Court judges to observe justice in the ongoing presidential election petitions.

The group led by its chairman Sebastian Onyango, Joe Kan'gethe , Lilian Wachira, Jepkemboi Kosgey, James Gichimu and Ciru Wa Ngugi urged the apex court not to bend to any blackmail and intimidation.

"We want to appeal to the members of the supreme court to ensure that in dealing with these petitions, they uphold the truth, fairness, trust, and objectivity regardless of the interest of their appointing authority and to ensure that justice is not only done but is seen by Kenyans to have been done without fear or favouritism," they said.

They further urged the judges to revert the IEBC into a body that respects the rule of law and holds sovereignty the will of the people.

"The Supreme Court should take their job and existence seriously and bring sanity to our electoral system and enforce the laws using its delegated power to ensure the people’s choice is respected and upheld."

The official hearing of the petitions begun on Wednesday and the verdict is expected to be delivered on Monday, September 5.

It will be decided by a seven-judge bench who include  Chief Justice Martha Koome, Deputy CJ Philomena Mwilu and judges Ibrahim Mohammed, Smokin Wanjala, Njoki Ndung'u, Isaac Lenaola and William Ouko.

On Tuesday, the seven petitions filed on August 22, were consolidated into one.
