Raila congratulates Barasa, Nassir after win in governor races

He thanked Kakamega and Mombasa residents for voting in Azimio candidates.

Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga has congratulated Mombasa governor-elect Abdulswamad Nassir and Kakamega's Fernandes Barasa on their win.

Raila took to Twitter to thank Kakamega and Mombasa residents for voting in Azimio candidates.

"Kakamega na Mombasa mumedhihirisha kwamba Kenya nzima ni Azimio (Kakamega and Mombasa, you have shown that Kenya is in Azimio). Congratulations Barasa and Nassir. To our loyal supporters who came out to vote for them, I Thank You," he said.

Nassir garnered 119,083 votes against his closest rival UDA’s Hassan Omar who got 98,108 votes.

Barasa, on the other hand, garnered 192,768 votes against his closest challenger Cleophas Malala of ANC who got 159,275 votes.

Barasa won in all the constituencies in the southern region and two others in the northern region, while Malala won in all constituencies in the central and northern regions.

Malala conceded defeat after Barasa was announced as the winner.
