Judiciary has closed Milimani law courts for 11 days effective August 26th to allow hearing of the presidential petition.

The hearing of the petition will kick off on Friday and only come to an end after 14 days.

In this effect, the Judiciary has suspended other court hearings until September 5.

"All fresh pleas and certificates of urgency will be filed and handled at City Court during this period," Judiciary said.

"Any urgent matters will be mentioned virtually by respective courts."

This is a departure from the past petitions where the events took place at the Supreme Court Building in the Central Business District.

Lack of adequate space as per the Covid-19 pandemic regulations is among reasons for the move to change the location.

Last week, there were eight petitions filed challenging the August 9 presidential outcome that declared William Ruto the president elect.

Ruto, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and its chairman Wafula Chebukati have been listed as respondents in the petitions.

The supreme court has 14 days since the day when the petition was filed to hear and deliver a verdict.
