Two people were killed Monday morning in a fire in Kahawa West, Nairobi.

About 10 families were left homeless in Soweto slums.

The fire is said to have started in one of the structures before it spread to the rest.

Residents helped contain the fire. They complained there was no response from the firefighters.

While they were going through the rubble, they stumbled on the charred remains of the two men. One of the victims was identified as 58-year-old John Chege and the other has yet to be identified, police said.

Police said the remains were moved to the mortuary as probe into the incident continues.

At the Machakos Country Bus Station, the body of Josephat Omondi was found on the roadside in suspected sudden death.

Police said they were called and informed of the presence of the body at the scene. They moved it to the mortuary.

In Kibera slums, a man stabbed and killed another in a scuffle over Sh100.

Witnesses told police the two had differed over the money before a fight ensued that degenerated into a fatal stabbing in the Monday morning incident.

The suspected assailant escaped the scene of the incident and is yet to be arrested.

At Sunton estate, police said they arrested a man who beat his girlfriend to death in a domestic row.

The body of Faith Jepleting, 23, was found in their house with swollen head and bruises.

Neighbours told police the two lived together and had been fighting for long. The suspect is expected in court to face murder charges, police said.

Elsewhere in Waithaka, 21-year-old James Mbithi was found dead with a stab wound to the chest after a suspected violent robbery.

No arrest has been made. Police who attended the scene said they are investigating the incident.

In another incident, three people were injured when a perimeter wall of a hotel collapsed at Village Market area in Nairobi.

The victims were pedestrians using a pavement near Comfort Hotel when the perimeter wall collapsed on Sunday afternoon.

They were all rushed to hospital in stable condition as police investigate the incident.
