Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati has demanded the immediate arrest of persons who caused chaos at the Bomas of Kenya on Monday.

During the announcement of the presidential results, Chebukati and commissioners Abdi Guliye, Boya Molu and CEO Hussein Marjan were physically attacked, assaulted and injured.

"We call for arrest and prosecution of these assailants regardless of their political affiliation," Chebukati said on Wednesday.

He further said some of the Commission's critical staff are being intimidated and harassed through profiling and arbitrary arrests.

"This has installed fear within the staff, who are now unable to report to the office for duty," he added.

Chebukati called on anyone involved in the intimidation to cease the behaviour.

"This harassment must stop forthwith," he said.

The fracas happened after Narok Senator-elect Ledama Olekina, Raila's agent Saitabao Ole Kanchory and Nyakach MP-elect Aduma Owuor asked Chebukati not to announce the results.

They were roughed up by Kenya Kwanza affiliates looking forward to Chebukati's announcement.

The two were saved by the General Service Unit (GSU) officers posted at Bomas of Kenya and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.
