No police on Kisumu streets as Kenyans wait on IEBC

There is no heavy deployment of police officers in the streets of Kisumu ahead of the announcement of the presidential election results.

In the previous elections, police officers and GSU officers were strategically deployed in Kisumu.

But on Monday, only three police officers were deployed to each supermarket and bank within Kisumu City's Central District Business.

The officers were manning Naivas, Shivling and Quickmart supermarkets.

A spot check in Kisumu revealed that police were not on the streets as has always been the case in the previous elections.

In the past, Kondele, which has been marked as a hotspot, police presence during the election period is usually been the norm.

Similar deployments were made at critical infrastructure in Kisumu.

This comes as hundreds of Kisumu residents took to the streets to celebrate ahead of the declaration of the presidential results.
