The umbrella union representing secondary school teachers has once again condemned the directive to open schools on August 18.

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers secretary general Akello Misori released a statement on Saturday.

Misori said Education CS George Magoha should clarify the effects of phased resumption on the whole school calendar.

"To remedy the situation, the minister must issue a statement on the comprehensive term dates for schools for the rest of the year," Misori said.

The SG further questioned if schools will ultimately be opened on August 18 as directed, or if there will be new changes.

"As a result, schools, parents and learners find it hard to make plans based on the latest announcement," he added.

CS Magoha directed schools to resume on August 18.

This is because the ongoing elections are still on course.

Magoha released a statement on Saturday clarifying that students will no longer be required to report to school on Monday, as earlier communicated.

"I hereby convey the Government’s decision on the suspension of the re-opening of all Basic Education institutions with effect from Monday, 15th August 2022 until Thursday 18th August 2022," the statement reads.
