Police in Kisii's Milimani Estate have launched a man-hunt for a teacher who fled short after allegedly killing his son over Sh20 theft

The body of the 11-year-old, a Grade five pupil at Mercy Junior Academy in Mwembe, Nyaribari Chache, was discovered dumped on a banana farm on Wednesday morning by villagers.

The boy had bruises on his back and feet.

Local administrator Joseph Ondande said they suspect the teacher used a tortilla roller, wooden bars and a whip to beat the minor.

"The initial information gleaned from the mother is that some money in the house was lost and the father suspected the boy had stolen. He ended up beating the boy," he said.

The corporal punishment, he added, may have affected his vital body organs.

The deceased's mother said the boy had been living with his grandmother and returned to the home on Monday evening.

She showed the crude implements her husband is suspected to have used to beat their son.

Angry villagers nearly lynched her before police rescued her.

The chief warned parents against violating children's rights.

Meanwhile, police in Keumbu are looking for a woman who dumped a baby in a toilet at Taracha.

A Form Three student is being interrogated.
