Peter Ochieng Orero has been declared Kibra MP elect.
Orero received his certificate as the residents celebrated.
"I want to appreciate the people of Kenya and the ODM party leader Raila Odinga for having faith in me and giving me the ticket so that I represent the people to Kibra," he said.
He said he would serve the people of Kibra diligently.
"I was the principal here in a school in Kibra but now I am the MP-elect. It has made me who I am," he said.
ODM party leader Raila Odinga had asked Independent candidate Imran Okoth to step down from the Kibra MP race.
This was after Imran lost in the ODM primaries held in April.
Imran assumed office on an ODM ticket in a by-election in 2019. This was after his brother Ken Okoth succumbed to cancer.
But Imran Okoth turned down Raila's request to step down from the race to defend his seat.
He instead defended his seat as an independent candidate.
"For the longest time, we were a community associated with social injustices and we waited for others to help us. But we can now see what happens when we realize that we can make powerful steps through the decisions we make. Sisi hatutachoka kutumikia watu wa Kibra! I request you to also keep working with us," Okoth said in a Facebook post.
"We can do this! On the 9th of August 2022, please vote for me - Bernard Otieno Okoth, so that we make sure we keep the work going."
