You are only ahead in opinion polls, media coverage - Ruto to Raila

Ruto has rubbished the latest TIFA opinion poll which appeared to show his main opponent in the lead of the presidential elections race.

Deputy President William Ruto has told off his main opponent Raila Odinga, saying he will beat him in the upcoming elections.

With 22 days to to the polls, Ruto has said the Azimio la Umoja one coalition candidate was only ahead of him in media coverage and opinion polls.

Speaking at Gikomba Market in Nairobi on Monday, he also accused Raila and his team of manufacturing opinion polls, putting them in the lead of the presidential race .

“Wacheni visingizio na opinion polls” he said

“You work day and night manufacturing opinion polls,” he claimed. 

Ruto argues “Those opinion polls are a plan to reject the presidential results”.

‘But I want to tell you that  the only place you can beat be is in opinion polls and media coverage. Mahustler mtakutana nao August 9,” he added.

The Deputy President has rubbished the latest opinion poll by the Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) which appeared to show his main opponent in the lead of the presidential election.

As per the results of the poll commissioned between June 25 and 30, 2022, Raila Odinga enjoys a 42 per cent lead over Ruto who trails with 39 per cent.

We have already defeated these people in the polls,” Ruto claimed.

Ruto gave a further stern warning to his Azimio counterpart saying that he will not allow him to cause havoc if he loses the August 9 poll.

This time, I have told Raila that I allow you to swear yourself in, there will be no violence or demonstrations,” he added.

Drumming up support for Nairobi’s Kenya Kwanza candidate Johnson Sakaja, Ruto urged city residents to vote for him as the next governor.

“During the debate, between Sakaja and huyu mwingine (Igathe), who demonstrated to have a degree by knowing the solutions to the problems of Nairobi County? Watu wa kanairo Let us vote for Sakaja,” he said.

The Nairobi Gubernatorial race has 8 candidates, including Polycarp Igathe of the Jubilee party and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Johnson Sakaja.

Others include former journalist Denise Kodhi flying the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) ticket and Tech-entrepreneur Harman Grewal on a Safina party ticket and Kenneth Nyamwamu of the United Progressive Alliance ticket.

Going on an independent ticket is Esther Waringa, Nancy Wambui and businesswoman Agnes Kagure.

All have been cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to vie for the position.
