IEBC Tribunal to decide Wanjigi's fate on Friday

Independent Electoral and boundaries commission (IEBC) Disputes Tribunal will on Friday decide whether to allow presidential candidate Maina Wanjigi to be on the ballot or not.

In his petition, Wanjigi had challenged the move by the Returning Officer Wafula Chebukati to lock him out for failing to submit a degree certificate.

Lawyer Willis Otieno who is also his running mate, however, lodged a complaint with the tribunal.

Mike Sonko who is seeking the Mombasa gubernatorial seat 'will know his fate on June 19.

Wanjigi who made an appearance at the court expressed optimism that the judgement will go his way.

Wambua Kilonzo who is chairing the panel gave the orders following the conclusion of the hearings on Thursday.

Addressing the press, Wanjigi also raised issues about what he termed as a hand behind IEBC.

He claimed their attempts to have Chebukati cross-examined in court flopped after the committee denied their request.

"One of the questions that we wanted to ask him is whether there is a super chairman, an unseen hand in the commission because he is not following the law," said Wanjigi.

He added, "When you see someone is not following the law maybe there is a script he is given from elsewhere but we are only praying that they might be led by law of the land and not hidden hands."
