Deputy President William Ruto is set to tour Kakamega county on Sunday to sell his bottom-up economic agenda.

Ruto will address a massive campaign rally at Bukhungu stadium.

It will be Ruto’s first visit to Western since he was cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to contest the presidency.

Kenya Kwanza leaders in Kakamega led by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, former senator Dr Boni Khalwale, and Mumias MP Ben Washiali toured the venue on Friday and promised the mother of all rallies ever witnessed in the town in recent times.

Khalwale said that the rally will mark the official launch of a Western chapter of Ruto's presidential campaigns.

“We started small and we have become big. Ruto is now at 61 percent and Raila Odinga is trading at 37 percent,” said Khalwale who is a Kenya Kwanza Senate candidate.

Malala said that the meeting will bring together all Kenya Kwanza candidates from Western to solidify Ruto’s support in the region.

Malala said that the Kenya Kwanza team in Western was sure of delivering 90 percent of the region's votes to Kenya Kwanza in the August polls.

“We are sure the work we have done on the ground has put Ruto ahead and that is what we want to cement,” he said.

Malala said that the meeting will be attended by 50,000 people.

He said that screens will be erected outside the stadium for those who will not find space in the stadium to follow the proceedings.

Washiali said he was confident that Ruto will form the next government.

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang'ula have crisscrossed Western the whole of this week to prepare the ground for the meeting.

The tour by the two came a week after Azimio One Kenya flag bearer Raila toured the vote-rich region to consolidate his support.

The former prime minister addressed rallies in Vihiga, Busia, Bungoma and Trans-Nzoia counties and skipped Kakamega.

Kenya Kwanza and Azimio one Kenya are engaged in a cutthroat battle for the control of the over 2.5m votes in the region.

Mudavadi and Wetang’ula are leading the Kenya Kwanza charges while Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa are spearheading the Azimio presidential campaigns in the region.
