Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko will be forced to appear before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Dispute Resolution Committee after he was denied clearance on Tuesday.
After a six-hour intense meeting with the IEBC team, Sonko finally succumbed to pressure and left the room briefly.
He told journalists that IEBC officials had taken up all his documents, which will now be forwarded to the IEBC legal team.
"If you have been convicted, you cannot be disqualified until you have exhausted all the legal avenues. My chances of appeal to go through are very high, in fact, one of the judges (Saidi Chitembwe) who upheld my impeachment decision has been suspended," Sonko said.
Sonko's lawyer Titus Kirui said initially they had raised the issue of degree.
"They wanted certified degree and original copy. That was resolved after the documents were availed," said Kirui.
The entire team went back to the room for another closed-door meeting.
