Former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has been cleared by the IEBC to vie for the county gubernatorial seat in the August 9 polls.

He was cleared alongside his running mate, Tom Ndalo, at Tom Mboya Labour College on Monday.

Ranguma will be attempting to make a comeback to county leadership through the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) party ticket.

He becomes the third candidate to be cleared by the commission to vie for the Kisumu governor seat.

Others are business woman Awuor Messo and the incumbent Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o.

Ranguma expressed confidence that he will clinch the seat saying they want to continue with the various development projects he had initiated in his first term.

He also promised to wage war on corruption within the county and recover most of the lost assets.

The former governor asked Kisumu residents to be watchful and avoid falling prey to propaganda during the electioneering period.

“Be very careful and keen on what you are told including some of the various development projects being done within the county allegedly by the current administration," he said.

Ranguma was accompanied by Senator Fred Outa, former County Assembly speaker Onyango Oloo, Woman representative aspirant on MDG party and several former county officials and aspirants and their supporters.

The senator urged residents to vote for Ranguma and Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

“We want to assure residents that Ranguma is coming back to complete the work that he had started with his deputy," Outa said.

Ndalo noted that they have been peaceful in the way they have been conducting their affairs and that they need to carry the same spirit going forward during the campaign period.

“You are all aware if you are a resident of this town, you know the kind of mess that has been perpetuated in the last five years, and the governor and his team is coming back to correct all this mess."

He noted that the county all over a sudden has been reduced to a county of the rich so that the lowly in the society are not considered.

‘Its unfortunate that the developments have also been centered in one place that is the CBD," he said.
