Presidential aspirant Reuben Kigame has been locked out of the race by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

Kigame who presented his papers to the IEBC for approval confirmed on Monday at a press conference that he had been barred from the 2022 presidential contest.

He said he was told by IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati on Sunday at 10 pm that he had failed to meet the requirements for presidential candidates.

Kigame said the IEBC chairman wrote him an email in the middle of the night without having a sit-down and hearing him out.

"One of the officials asked me to wait for the chairman in the lobby but was later told he left. Strangely, someone from the commission asked me for my email and I gave it to them. I did not know what was coming," Kigame said.

Kigame's attempts to meet the IEBC chair on Monday were futile as he was not granted an audience.

"When I wanted to seek audience with the Chair and have a redress of this matter, security barred me from entering the Bomas of Kenya, saying no aspirant was being allowed," he said.

Kigame says besides the signatures, he was asked to appear before Chebukati and table his documents of compliance which did not happen.

"I was pre-judged based on signatures, which they did not receive and are still lying in my car," he said.

Kigame lamented that he had been taken in rounds by IEBC officials who avoided meeting him.

He said there is a deliberate plan to bar certain aspirants from vying for presidency.

Murang'a Governor Mwani Wa Iria has also protested after he realized his name was missing from the list of presidential aspirants scheduled for clearance.
