Three children, herder killed in Kerio Valley bandit attack

Three children and a herder were on Sunday shot dead by bandits in Kerio Valley, Elgeyo Marakwet.

Six other people were injured in the incident that occurred at Kapkoros area.

The children who are pupils at Tot primary school were playing in a nearby field when bandits sprayed the area with bullets.

The injured have been transferred to hospitals in the area for treatment.

Elgeyo Marakwet Police Commander, Patrick Lumumba confirmed the incident saying that police responded immediately and recovered stolen animals but the bandits escaped.

He said tension is high in the area and reinforcements are being deployed to beef up security in the area where families are fleeing from their homes.

Elgeyo Marakwet Deputy Governor Wesley Rotich termed the ongoing killings in the area as 'genocide' and accused the government of inaction to end the insecurity problem.

The children killed are aged between seven and 12-years-old.
