President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday officially opened the CBK Pension Towers in Nairobi.

The construction of the ultra-modern building, designed by Kenyan architects, started four years ago.

"With the addition of this skyscraper, our capital city of Nairobi skyline now acquires not just a new building, but one whose design is very bold and without question, very distinctive," Uhuru said.

He said it was admirable that the construction of the building was fully financed by the Pension Fund and not a penny came from Treasury.

The iconic building boasts many unique features, including a 360 view area at the top and it is solar-powered.

Its unique design gives the impression of two leaning towers facing the opposite direction, a design exemplifying two retirees.

“In between, we have the Pension Towers, the Pension Fund and the CBK as the anchor of support for our retirees,” CBK Pension Fund chair Dominic Mwenja said.

“This is a testament to how we view our retirees. Our retirees give us the best years of their lives, it’s incumbent upon us to make sure that they are comfortable in their golden years.”

Mwenja said the whole idea behind the construction of the building was to ensure CBK retirees have a comfortable life after years of service.

He lauded the CBK Pensions Fund as one of the best-managed retirement funds in East and Central Africa.

“We pride ourselves in being among the best in the world. All our retirees will never have to worry about all the money that they receive every single month for the rest of their lives,” Mwenja said.

His sentiments were echoed by CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge, who saluted the retirees for serving the country diligently.

“The retirees are not just retirees, they have worked for this country for many years silently, and in the end, the country is better because of their dedication,” Njoroge said.

He said the fund has set world-class standards in terms of treating retirees saying benefits will be processed in a record three days upon application.

“The payments go by the 25th of every month. If there are any questions they have to be answered within 24 hours,” he said.

The CBK boss thanked the president for supporting the construction of the towers, citing it as an extension of his affordable housing project.

He said 57 support staff of the CBK were allocated houses in one of the residential complexes.

“They asked me to thank you directly,” Njoroge said.

Also present during the event were Treasury CS Ukur Yatani, NMS Director-General Mohammed Badi and other state officials.
