Two police officers charged with the murder of Rights lawyer Willie Kimani were today arraigned before a Machakos court to face charges of killing another man.

The DPP approved fresh murder charges against AP officers Fredrick Leliman and Leonard Mwangi as they await the judgment for allegedly killing Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and driver Joseph Muriri in 2016.

The two who led Mlolongo spiv team will be charged alongside their former boss, former Mololongo OCS Stephen Lelei and spiv driver Wilson Waweru.

Leliman and Mwangi appeared before Machakos High Court Registrar Eric Analo but Lelei and Waweru were not present.

According to the charge sheet, Leliman and Mwangi are accused of jointly murdering Peter Mutua Musyoka on June 2, 2016 at unknown place in Machakos County.

The alleged murder came three weeks before Willie Kimani and the other two men were abducted and killed on June 23, 2016.

Their bodies were found in Olodonyo Sabuk River a week later stashed in gunny bags.

Lelei, who also faces a different murder case in Machakos, and Wilson Waweru did not appear in court on Tuesday despite being summoned.

The prosecution asked the court to issue warrants of arrest against them but Analo declined.

The Registrar instead directed that the file be returned to court on Wednesday for further directions.

The four officers will be taken for a mental assessment before they are formally charged with the second murder case.
