The Director of Public Prosecutions will be calling eight witnesses to testify against businesswoman Mary Wambui in her Sh2.5 billion tax evasion case.
Anti-corruption magistrate Felix Kombo said the trial will begin on June 6.
The prosecution indicated its first witness will take 72 hours over three consecutive days.
In the case, Purma Holdings Limited and its directors Mary Wambui Mungai and Purity Mungai are accused of knowingly and unlawfully omitting Sh2.2 billion from the company’s income tax returns.
The money, according to the charge sheet, should have been included in the income tax returns submitted to the commissioner for the 2014 income.
They denied the charges and were granted a cash bail of Sh50 million. Wambui deposited the cash bail from the loan account of a hotel she is constructing in Nairobi to secure their release.
In March, the accused asked the court to allow them substitute the cash bail with land in Juja and Nyandarua.
She wanted the exchange because she said she was in dire need to facilitate an ongoing construction work.
"Unless the application is heard and determined, there is real danger the construction of Glee which was being undertaken with funds in the Glee Hotel loan account, may stall leading to grave financial implications to the company,” she said.
The court was able to verify the details of the titles and the substitution was allowed.
