Residents of Malaha village in Bungoma County are reeling in shock after one family lost two of their kins in a lightning tragedy on Sunday evening.

The duo Francisca Wabomba, 21, and Valary Naliaka, 13, were struck by lightning while heading home from a posho mill.

While confirming the incident, area Assistant chief Bramwel Kachelo regretted the demise of the two and asked parents not to allow their children out when it is raining.

Kachelo added that the incident happened at 6 pm.

"In this season, we have excess rains which are accompanied by lightning. I urge parents to monitor the situation before allowing their children to walk out while it is raining," he said.

"It is a sad day in this area. The deceased are my friends. It's painful to lose children at such a tender age."

At the same time, the administrator urged relevant authorities to install lightning arrestors in the area to avoid such tragedies in the future.

"Sincerely speaking this area experiences lightning during the rainy season. I appeal to relevant authorities to help us get lightning arrestors erected in the area to curb such painful incidences," he said.

The bodies of the deceased were picked up by police officers from the Webuye police station and taken to Webuye county hospital mortuary for preservation as the family starts burial arrangements.
