UDA primaries in Kiambu were marred with confusion after Thika MP Patrick Wainaina Wa Jungle claimed victory while the counting process was still ongoing.

The MP is eyeing the UDA ticket for the Kiambu governor.

In the preliminary votes, his rival Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi appeared to be in an early lead.

But Wa Jungle posted on his Twitter that the designated Kiambu presiding officers and returning officers were currently unavailable.

"In a nomination exercise with less than 10% voter turnout, we only have three sub-counties out of 12 that have submitted the results, the second day running," he said.

However, the elections officers spent most of the day counting the votes as the election was going on in other polling stations.

Earlier, there were claims that UDA had settled for Wamatangi, remarks that were dismissed by Wainaina.

Wainaina had also said that he was willing to broker talks with his competitors for a deputy position.

Wamatangi will face Former Governor William Kabogo of Tujibebe Wakenya Party, Governor James Nyoro of Jubilee and the Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria of Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) Party.

Others are the former Women Representative Ann Nyokabi and Juliet Kimemia (KANU).
