Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni has challenged Africans to investigate why the continent has low life expectancy than other parts of the world.

The 77-year-old Museveni, wondered why Africans die at a younger age than people in the rest of the world.

"The life span of Japanese is 79 years. Why does God call only Africans," Museveni posed on a lighter note.

According to data by Statista  the average life expectancy at birth for those born in 2021 across Africa is 63 years for males and 66 years for females.

The average life expectancy globally was 71 years for males and 75 years for females in mid-2021.

Compared to Africa, that is a difference of eight years for males and nine years for females.

The data shows that Northern Africa has the highest life expectancy in Africa - 73 per cent for males and 75 per cent for females.

Eastern Africa follows with 64 per cent males and 68 per cent females.

Southern Africa has 59 per cent (males) and 65 per cent (females); Central Africa has 59 per cent (males) and 63 per cent (females.

The data shows that Western Africa has the lowest life expectancy across the continent - 58 per cent (males) and 60 per cent ( females).

Speaking during a press conference, Museveni said the idea that humans are visitors on earth and that they are on transit should not be bought.

He also empasised on people taking care of and managing their transit.

By transit, Museveni meant offspring hence encouraged people to sire more children.

"I'm in transit, but I still have an eternal branch here," Museveni said in apparent reference to his children.

The Ugandan head of state said the country he is building together with fellow citizens is for their children and not for them.
