Police are investigating an incident in which a bodaboda rider was found with stab wounds after being robbed of his motorcycle in Mlolongo area, Athi River.

The victim had been hired by two people to ferry them to an unknown destination on Sunday before he was found hours later with stab wounds in the stomach and chest.

The suspected thugs escaped with his motorcycle and police say they are searching for it and the suspects. The rider was admitted to the hospital in a serious condition.

This comes in the wake of increased such incidents in the city.

Last week, a bodaboda rider was killed and his motorcycle stolen by suspected thugs in Dandora, Nairobi.

The body of Peter Wagathairu was found in Kijiji slums near the local dumpsite hours after he had been hired by two men to ferry them to an unknown place.

Police who attended the scene said the deceased had stab wounds in the chest and it seems there was a struggle between him and his killers.

The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary as the hunt for the killers and motorcycle goes on.

Police believe the gang was behind the motorcycle and that the deceased may have resisted the robbery prompting the fatal stabbing.

No arrest has been made so far but a hunt for the suspected killers is ongoing.

The bodaboda industry is undergoing reforms with the ongoing registration of all operators, which started Monday, March 28.

The primary objective of issuance of Smart Driving Licences to qualified riders is to streamline the sub-sector and to promote road safety and security for the operators and users of their services.

To register, a rider must present himself/herself in person and have an original ID card, a copy of the KRA PIN and an active registered phone number.

Meanwhile, a suspected thug was Sunday night shot dead in a botched robbery in Kasarani area, Nairobi.

The man is said to have been in the company of three others and were mugging pedestrians when an alarm was raised alerting police who were on patrol.

Police say the other suspects managed to escape the scene after they had attacked and robbed pedestrians of their valuables and cash in Kiagishiri area.

The body was moved to the mortuary.
