An ODM aspirant for Kisii's Bombaba Ward seat died on Monday from stab wounds inflicted on him Sunday night by armed assailants.

Thomas Okari,38, died in the wee hours of Monday while undergoing treatment in hospital.

Okari had traveled home from Nairobi on Thursday for ODM party nominations before he met his death.

He was eyeing the Bombaba Ward seat in Bomachoge Borabu, Kisii County.

Relatives and villagers said he sustained machete injuries on the head following the attack at his home in Bombaba.

Okari was found bleeding profusely before he was rushed to Oasis hospital in Kisii town where he was pronounced dead.

The motive of the attack is yet to be established but his nephew, Daniel Mayaka, said they suspect his uncle's involvement in politics is a possible motive.

Mayaka asked for quick investigations into the killing.

"We urge the police to undertake a probe to ascertain who the perpetrators are," he told journalists at the scene.

Okari had arrived at his Bombaba home at 11pm on Sunday and headed straight to bed.

A while later, a group of armed thugs forcefully gained entry into the house and attacked him, inflicting severe injuries on the head.

"They (attackers) broke the rear door first to gain entry before attacking him with machetes. By the the time we responded, they had escaped," Mayaka said.

ODM parliamentary aspirant Evans Kimori condemned the attack and called on security agencies to investigate.

"I found him lying in blood with panga cuts all over his head. It was a scary sight," Kimori told journalists.
