Six political parties that belonged to the Mount Kenya Unity forum have joined hands to form a third political movement.

They have dubbed the formation the Kenya Yetu alliance.

The party leaders spoke on Tuesday during a press conference held at Sagret hotel in Nairobi.

They said they have approached more than 35 other parties to broaden the alliance.

If it takes off, it will join Azimio La Umoja movement led by Raila Odinga and Kenya Kwanza of Deputy President William Ruto.

They said the inter-parties forum will consolidate votes and increase their negotiation powers after the August election.

The six include Joyce Mwambingu's Peoples Empowerment Party, Jacob Gitau (Peoples Party of Kenya), Isaiah Gichu (Party of Democratic Unity), Thuo Mathenge ( The New Democrats), George Ragui (Kenya Patriot Party) and Josphat Mbugua (National Voluntary Party).

Kenya Yetu national coordinator Thuo Mathenge said with the current political tension, Kenyans should be left to decide on their own.

He however said the Kenya Yetu alliance is open to forming a post-election deal and their mission is to unite the country.

“With the current political waves, Kenyans are left with only two choices of Azimio or Kenya Kwanza. About 55 per cent of Kenyans are left wondering on what to do,” Mathenge said.

He said more than 35 political parties joined but so far six have signed a working formula.

Mathenge said the Kenya Yetu alliance will be directing people on the political stands.

He said Kenya Kwanza and Azimio should play mature politics.

The coordinator said Kenya Yetu will allow their supporters to choose presidential candidates.

People’s Empowerment Party leader Joyce Mwambingu said coming together will help the parties to have a strong force while campaigning.

She said the memorandum of understanding will also help them to have a proper bargain power.

Party of Democratic Unity leader Isaiah Gichu said they will reach out to all parties that have joined any political affiliation.

He said they will be traversing together as a unit and spearheading the growth of democracy.

“No one should be forced to take any political direction and Kenyans should be left to decide on their own,” Gichu said.

He said the Kenya Yetu alliance brings an end to the Mount Kenya unity forum after some members left.

The National Voluntary Party leader Josphat Mbugua said the alliance will be part of the next government.

“We want to form government and this is possible if all parties shun their interests and focus on one agenda of unity," he said.
