Kisumu police probe steel shop robbery, one suspect arrested

Police in Kisumu are investigating a robbery incident at Jubilee Jumbo Steel shop off the Obote road that was staged on Wednesday.

County Police commander Alphonce Kimathi said one suspect has been arrested. He said no money was stolen during the attack.

The police boss said no injuries were reported. "We have one suspect in our custody to help us with the investigation," Kimathi told the Star.

The suspect is being held at the Kisumu Central Police station.

In a video clip, two robbers armed with an AK 47 raided the shop at about 10 am forcing the workers at the shop to scamper for safety.

One of the robbers in a grey T-shirt and a cap pulled out a gun from a bag, cock it and demanded to be given cash.

His accomplice, swiftly climbed on top of the counter to collect the money from the already scared workers who took refuge under the counter.

He was wearing an orange reflector and a yellow motorbike helmet.

At some point, the robber removed the helmet before putting it on again as he hurriedly move across the counter.

Nine people including workers and staff were at the shop during the morning incident.

One person in a red T-shirt said to be a client, managed to escape unhurt.
