The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and United Nation Development Program (UNDP) have called for peace during the electioneering period.

On Tuesday, the two bodies hosted an Intergenerational Dialogue between the youth and elders on promoting peaceful co-existence ahead of the 2022 General Elections.

Speaking at the official unveiling and relaunch of the UWIANO PLATFORM FOR PEACE Strategic Coordination and Agenda for Peace event at KICD Nairobi, Kobia emphasized the importance of having a peaceful and credible general election.

'Through this dialogue, we seek to create not just conversations but friendships, mentorships, paths towards positive identity, and the successful transfer of wisdom, wealth and power governed by ethics as enshrined in Article 10 of our Constitution,”  Samuel Kobia, NCIC Chair, said.

The relaunch is aimed at ensuring that there will be free, credible, inclusive and peaceful 2022 General Elections.

“Kenya remains a strategic country thanks to its role in mediating peace in the region and as a current member of the UN Security Council. Its greatness will further be enhanced by a peaceful and credible General Election,” said Kobia.

Speaking at the same event, ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs CAS Nadia Ahmed advocated for the youths.

She urged the young generation to ensure that they seek know-how from the elderly.

“The President believed in me when I was only 29 years old. It is our responsibility to support each other as young people to ensure we reach greater heights. Let's not sell each other out,” said CAS Nadia.

“Leadership and accountability are not about you. It's about giving hope to a generation that looks, smells, talks and feels just like me. Let us listen keenly when our elders talk to us. They are the reservoir of wisdom,” CAS Nadia said.
