Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu has given boda boda leaders seven days to avail themselves for an open discussion regarding their conduct within the county.

Condemning a recent attack on a female motorist by suspected bodaboda operators along Forest Road, the county boss stated that unruly and uncouth behaviour will not be tolerated within Nairobi.

"Nairobi must be safe for every motorist and I extended my arm for consultation with the bodaboda operators. I give them seven days to reach out to the county," Kananu noted.

"What we witnessed about the incident was embarrassing, outdated and barbaric. Our ladies need to be protected from such actions," she added.

On Monday, a video of a lady being attacked and sexually harassed out of her vehicle by boda boda operators along Forest Road went viral.

According to a statement at Parklands police station, the victim told police that a boda boda rider blocked her car abruptly and she crashed into the motorbike.

The rider fell to the ground and broke a leg.

She stopped a few metres from the scene but was mobbed by a group of riders, some of whom tried to rob her. She got alarmed and drove off.

The riders chased after her for a few kilometres, blocked the car ad attacked her out of the vehicle with some seen sexually touching the victim.

Earlier today, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered a crackdown on rogue boda-bodas across the country and warned against politicising the issue by claiming that the government is targeting small traders.

He added that all riders will be registered afresh and ordered multi-agency teams to swiftly act and restore sanity in the sector.

"A boda boda is not a licence to strip a woman and remove her dignity. There should never be a repeat of what happened on Friday. This is a blight on the whole Kenyan society," Uhuru stated

Governor Kananu called upon City Hall's inspectorate department to partner with the National Police to bring order to the city.

" The bodaboda operators are also trying to make a living but it must be done with order and respect to all people regardless of the gender," Kananu added.
