The government has activated its health emergency response mechanisms following the death of three people in Isiolo County attributed to an outbreak of yellow fever.
The health ministry said in a tweet on Saturday that it plans to conduct yellow fever vaccination in Isiolo and other high risks counties following the outbreak.
“They include Wajir, Garissa, Marsabit, Meru, Samburu, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Turkana and possibly Tana River and Mandera,” the tweet read.
According to acting Director of Health Patrick Amoth, the national government and partners are mobilizing resources to support response activities.
Amoth however advised high-risk counties to mobilize resources to support response and prevention measures.
The confirmed cases are in Merti and Garbatulla sub-counties of Isiolo.
The last indigenous case of Yellow Fever was reported in Kenya from mid-1992 through March 1993 in the south Kerio Valley.
