Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua has officially quit the Jubilee party and joined UDA.

He said he would defend his seat through the UDA ticket.

“I have officially left my former party Jubilee and joined the Party of the future UDA.” Gachagua wrote on his Facebook page.

The MP also called upon his competitors to join the party before Friday’s deadline so they can get a chance of facing him in the party nominations.

This comes a day after Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter joined the party, where he was welcomed by Gachagua.

In the recent past, Gachagua has been a fierce critic of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

On Monday, he publicly announced that the Uhuru-Raila Odinga handshake was not meant for Kenyans but to protect the Kenyatta family and businesses.

He also questioned why the president had not dropped Ruto as his running mate in 2017 if he was aware he was corrupt.

The Mathira MP had worked alongside the president for five years during the KANU regime, during the president’s days as a Cabinet Minister and later when he was an opposition leader between 2001 and 2006.

Gachagua won his seat as Mathira Member of Parliament in 2017, through a Jubilee Party ticket.
