Kenyan citizens who are willing to leave Ukraine have been asked to do so by the Ministry of Affairs through its mission in Vienna.

In a statement, the Ministry said that all Kenyans are safe, however, some of them are stuck at the border points, particularly with Poland because the roads are bogged down with vehicle traffic.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in touch with all the neighbouring countries of Ukraine within the EU to seek their accommodation, and to allow Kenyans to transit through their countries should they wish to return home,” the Ministry said.

Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary will now allow Kenyans without visas but with Kenyan travel documents to cross their borders while on transit, provided they have valid air tickets.

The Ministry added that the western part of Ukraine is relatively safe because there is very little military activity going on there.

“Kenyans are encouraged to harbor there as they wait for the situation to settle down and or as they make their plans to come home.”

Also, the Ministry has asked parents and relatives to those in Ukraine to remain calm and get in touch with the Diaspora and consular Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nairobi.

On Friday, the government issued a cautionary advisory note to all Kenyans in Ukraine, asking them to leave the country if they are able to.

“So far all the Kenyans in Ukraine are reported to be safe. Some Kenyans however have been stuck at border points, particularly with Poland where because of visa restrictions they have not been able to cross over,” the Ministry said.
