Kenya Kwanza Alliance has exuded confidence that no one will rig the August 9 election.
The leaders castigated the utterances made by Muranga Woman representative Sabina Chege in Vihiga on vote-rigging claims as unfortunate.
Sabina, while addressing a crowd in Vihiga, hinted that the 2017 election was allegedly rigged in favor of Jubilee, and this was likely to happen again.
"Kule central nimeskia hapawengine wakisema hapa tuliwaibia, kuna kaukweli kidogo. Lakini mjue kama tulijua kuiba si ata hii tutafanya nini...alafu.. alafu..." she said.
Loosely translated as, 'In Central, I have heard here some people saying that we stole from them. There is some truth in that. They should know that if we knew how to steal then, why not in this? Will we not do something... then.. then..then".
The statement seems to have rattled the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, who have insisted that they would safeguard their votes at all cost.
They added that their competitors have sensed defeat and are plotting underhand dealing like using the local administration to further their agenda.
Speaking during a campaign trail in Olenguroune, Nakuru County, leaders who accompanied Deputy President William Ruto said they will have a team of young people to make sure that does not happen.
“Sabina Chege is a confidant of the Azimio brigade, and her utterances in Vihiga was a reflection of what they are planning to do. We cannot allow the election to be rigged,” ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi said.
His sentiments were echoed by Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang'ula, who said that the president should let democracy prevail and make sure that there are free and fair elections.
“We know what it means to have free and fair elections. In 2007, we saw post-election violence due to rigging claims. We have a young team to make sure that does not happen this year,” Wetang'ula said.
Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua slammed Sabina Chege, saying it was wrong for her and the Azimio brigade to talk about vote-rigging.
“Sabina said they will rig elections, we are telling those in Azimio we are going to make sure that no one will steal our votes. We will have locals to guard our votes to make sure that we have a free and fair election,” Gachagua said.
Tharaka Nithi Senator Kindiki Kithure told the Azimio side that they would be in for a rude shock if they think of stealing votes in the coming elections.
Kenya Alliance is in Nakuru for a campaign trail that will see them traverse through Olongeruone, Njoro, Rongai and Gilgil.
