A multi-agency security team led by the Anti-Terror police on Tuesday arrested a suspect linked to terrorist activities.

In a statement, Police said Mohamed Abubakar Hussein, 29, was found in possession of 95 used Nokia (Kabambe) phones.

The police assured Kenyans that security has been beefed up across the country calling on the public to share information on any suspicious activities within their areas.

"We urge the public to share information on any suspicious activities within their areas."

The arrest comes a few days after President Uhuru Kenyatta met senior internal security officials amid terror alerts issued by a host of countries.

Some European countries had issued terror alerts to their citizens living in Kenyans.

France urged its citizens who are in Kenya to be vigilant while visiting public places as there was a real risk of targeting public places frequented by foreign nationals, particularly in Nairobi.

The US Embassy also urged people living in Kenya to exercise caution and need to be vigilant while in public locations.

The Embassy says there is a potential for increased acts of violent extremism in the country.

The Netherlands had also issued a similar warning of a possible terror attack in Nairobi and urged vigilance in areas frequented by Western nationals.

The National Police Service on January 28, asked the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

The Police Service assured Kenyans that security in the country had been scaled up through different policing operations.
