Veteran Harambee Stars, AFC Leopards fan Isaac Juma has died following an attack by an assailant at his home in Mumias, Kakamega County.
Police said they have arrested a suspect over the attack.
The officers handling the matter said preliminary findings had shown the attack was out of a land dispute in the area.
Officials said Juma was slashed to death by the assailant on Wednesday at around 11 pm.
Juma was a passionate football lover and religiously supported the national team, Harambee Stars.
Western Regional police boss Peris Muthoni said they are interrogating the suspect for more information.
“We have a suspect over the murder to know more,” she said.
Carolyn Auma, the deceased's second-born told the Star that the late Juma had differences with his brother and sisters over land.
"My father was a harmless person who could not harm even a fly," she said.
Police on Tuesday arrested one of her cousins who attacked her father.
His body was moved to the Butere Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Juma was a passionate football lover and religiously supported the national team, Harambee Stars.
He also supported AFC Leopards.

His wife told police the incident happened over a land dispute that has been outstanding.
The body was later picked up and taken to the local mortuary as investigations go on.
