Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed when a fire ravaged a flower packaging company near Sameer Park along Mombasa Road, Nairobi.

Police said they were called and informed of the fire and rushed there to help in coordinating efforts to contain it.

No injury was reported.

Acting Nairobi police boss James Mugera said they are yet to know the cause of the fire, which was contained almost three hours after it broke out.

Several cartons that had been stored there fanned the spread of the fire.

Elsewhere, several structures were Tuesday night razed by fire in Nairobi’s Mathare slums.

Police say the fire started in one structure and spread to others. Police said no injury was reported.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electric fault.

Fire engines had a difficult time accessing the scene. There has been a deliberate move to open up informal settlements and ensure proper power connections.

“We always urge those near the roads in the affected areas to give space to emergency service providers,” Mugera said.
