The United States has issued a level three travel ban against Kenya following the rising cases of Covid-19.

This has downgraded the country from level one category which is a much safer level that required citizens to follow standard procedures.

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 3 Travel Health Notice for Kenya due to COVID-19, indicating a high level of Covid-19 in the country," CDC announced.

"Your risk of contracting COVID-19 and developing severe symptoms may be lower if you are fully vaccinated with an FDA authorized vaccine. Before planning any international travel, please review the CDC's specific recommendations for vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers," CDC further advised.

In Level Three, people are advised to avoid travelling due to serious risks to safety and security, unlike in Level One which is the lowest advisory level for safety and security risk. There is some risk in any international travel.

The Department of State provides additional advice for travellers in these areas in the Travel Advisory. Conditions in any country may change at any time.

The Level Three category usually applies to destinations that have had between 100 and 500 Covid-19 cases per 100,000 residents in the past 28 days.

The travel advisory comes after Kenya suspended all inbound and transit passenger flights from the United Arabs Emirates for seven days.

The suspension took effect on January 10, for an initial period of seven days.

"Inbound and transit passenger flights from UAE are suspended for a period of seven days. We are doing this to reciprocate a ban on Kenyan passenger flights to UAE," Kenya Civil Aviation Authority said.

The ban will not affect cargo flights which will continue with normal operations.
