Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance is the country’s most popular political party, a new survey by poll firm Tifa suggests.

The party moves nine percentage points upwards to 30 per cent to consolidate its apex position.

The poll shows that UDA's popularity sustained a steady upward trajectory, rising from 21 per cent in June.

The poll done between November 7 and 13 puts opposition chief Raila Odinga’s ODM party at second position with a popularity rating of 16 per cent.

This is an improvement of seven percentage points when compared to the party’s ratings in June when it was at nine per cent.

The poll also reveals that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s shaky Jubilee party has moved down from eight per cent to five per cent.

The poll had a +/- 2.51 per cent margin of error. The sample size was 1,591 and telephonic interviews were conducted with respondents whose contacts were collected face-to-face.

The survey shows the majority of the people now supporting Ruto’s UDA outfit were Jubilee diehards who have shifted their allegiance to Ruto.

The DP’s initial grip on the Jubilee party was obliterated after Uhuru launched a ruthless purge on Ruto’s most dependable allies.

According to the latest poll, 64 per cent of UDA supporters were initially Jubilee backers.

However, the DP has raided ODM with the poll showing that of his new converts, 17 per cent were ODM supporters.

The poll shows that 46 per cent of Kenyans do not support any party, with the majority of this, at 31 per cent having been in the Jubilee.
