CSs among top Uhuru men attending Raila’s Kasarani event

Five cabinet secretaries are attending the Azimio la Umoja Convention at Kasarani

Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and Interior PS Karanja Kibicho are among the top government officials attending ODM leader Raila Odinga’s event at Kasarani Stadium.

Wamalwa’s Ministry is in charge of the military mandated with the securing the country against external aggression while the Interior Ministry is in charge of the national police service that ensures internal security.

The duo led the top officials to the national Azimio la Umoja Convention in what appears to enjoy the blessings of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

CSs’ Ukur Yatani (National Treasury), Keriako Tobiko (Environment), Sicily Kariuki (Water), Peter Munya (Agriculture) and Joe Mucheru (ICT) also attended the event.

The CSs defied criticism by Deputy President William Ruto and his troops for engaging in partisan politics.

CS Mucheru, alongside his Interior counterpart Fred Matiangi, are members of the multiagency committee on 2022 election preparedness chaired by chief justice Martha Koome.

However, the lot has been under intense criticism from the DP and his men for taking sides and at the same time sitting in the powerful committee.

In a letter to IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, Ruto’s UDA asked the commission to stop the CS from meddling in the election preparations.

“Elections are a process that has nothing to do with government functionaries,” UDA said in a letter by its secretary-general Veronica Maina.

But the CSs have been telling off their critics.

Later, Chebukati pulled out of the multi-agency committee.

Jubilee secretary general Raphael Tuju and vice-chairman David Murathe, close allies of the president, are leading a team of troops from the president's party.

Other leaders in attendance are Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli, 20 governors led by Council of Governors chairman Martin Wambora (Embu) and vice-chairperson James Ongwae.

Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), Alex Tolgos (Elgeyo Marakwet), Ali Korane (Garissa), Granton Samboja (Taita Taveta) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui).
