Three police officers are in custody following a fatal shooting of a boda boda rider in Ruai area, Nairobi.

The officers attached to Ruai police station were arrested after the body of Dennis Wanyoike 29, was discovered with bullet wounds.

They said they were on duty in the dawn when they were informed of a motorcycle that had been stolen in the area.

In the process, two motorcycles emerged speeding off prompting the officers to shoot at the riders.

The fatal shooting prompted a protest along Kangundo Road by some locals who demanded action on the officers behind the incident.

A team of senior officers who visited the scene ordered the disarming of the three colleagues and their detention as investigations go on.

The body of the victim was moved to the mortuary.

Cases of fatal shootings involving police officers have been on the rise and some of them are facing charges in court.

The three are likely to be presented in court on Monday to face various charges.

Nairobi police boss Augustine Nthumbi said the incident is under probe.
